Every Summer for
Memorial Day through Labor Day Sunday the youth groups at Zion travel out to
Fish Lake Beach Campground in Volo to help spread God’s word to others. The youth
take an active part in setting up a church service at the campground every
Sunday morning which begins at 10:30 am. They do it all including passing
out worship service booklets and music, giving the three readings from the
Bible, and leading the services.
A keyboardist supplies the accompaniment
and the sermonette is given by a different adult member of the church each
week. It is a great experience to be able to reach out to some that don’t
have a church to call there own and to those who spend their summers out
there regularly as well as those who are out of town and in ours for the
weekend.
There is also Sunday School for the kids that takes place before
the church service. Sunday School starts at 9:45 am and then leads right
into church. The service is held under a pavilion so it doesn’t matter,
rain or shine, the service goes on outside at Fish Lake.
The campground is
located off Route 12 just one block north of Route 120. Zion has been an
active presence at Fish Lake for over 15 years. I know because I have been
out there for that long and always look forward to going back every
summer.
