Every Sunday afternoon at 1:15 pm a volunteer from Zion shows the morning taped worship service at Alden Terrace Residence. Those residents who wish to view the service meet in the Library. The volunteer puts the tape in the VCR, passes our the Bulletins which include the music selections. Sometimes the volunteer will need to escort the residents to and from the viewing. If you would like to volunteer for this service, please contact Jean Grandt.
The first Sunday of each month, a baby basket is set up in the Narthex. The monies and baby items are donated to the 1st Way Pregnancy Center, 2015 W. Johnsburg Rd, Johnsburg, IL 60050. The supplies that are needed most are formula and diapers. Infant clothing and blankets are also needed. A special collection for Lutherans for Life is taken once a year. Every Summer from Memorial Day through Labor Day Sunday the youth group at Zion travel out to Fish Lake Beach Campground in Volo to help spread God’s word to others. The youth take an active part in setting up a church service at the campground every Sunday morning which begins at 10:30 am. They do it all including passing out worship service booklets and music, giving the three readings from the Bible, and leading the services.
A keyboardist supplies the accompaniment and the sermonette is given by a different adult member of the church each week. It is a great experience to be able to reach out to some that don’t have a church to call there own and to those who spend their summers out there regularly as well as those who are out of town and in ours for the weekend.
There is also Sunday School for the kids that takes place before the church service. Sunday School starts at 9:45 am and then leads right into church. The service is held under a pavilion so it doesn’t matter, rain or shine, the service goes on outside at Fish Lake.
The campground is located off Route 12 just one block north of Route 120. Zion has been an active presence at Fish Lake for over 15 years.
Zion Lutheran Church makes a monthly donation to the McHenry FISH Pantry. On the second weekend of each month, Zion member volunteers set up a FISH collection table in the Narthex for grocery items and/or cash. After the last service on Sunday, items and cash are gathered up and delivered to the FISH Pantry at 3703 N. Richmond Road (Rt. 31). FISH is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00-11:30 AM. Donations may also be mailed to: FISH McHenry, P.O. Box 282, McHenry, IL 60051
For we are God's workmanship created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
To reach out to people and bring them into a living relationship with Jesus Christ through dynamic worship of God, vigorous study of His word, individual loving care for one another through small group ministry, and committed support of His work throughout the world all in the power of the Holy Spirit.
